Open Studio Time

Open Studio is a welcoming opportunity for approved artists to continue practicing, creating, and growing in the studio outside of scheduled classes.

Open Studio time includes access to available wheels, handbuilding tools, slab roller, extruders, and Glotfelty Pottery open studio glazes.

Open Studio is designed for personal, educational, and recreational studio use. Production-scale commercial work requires prior approval.

Who May Use Open Studio

To use Open Studio, artists must have either:

A studio check-off is available for $10. This fee may be applied toward Open Studio hours or a future class.

At this time, Open Studio is available to adults 18 and older only.

Open Studio access does not include private instruction unless arranged separately.

Clay

Clay must be purchased through Glotfelty Pottery unless otherwise approved.

Clay may be purchased in 5 lb increments or by the full box.

Clay pricing:

The full-box price is offered as a bulk option for artists who want a larger quantity of clay.

All personal tools and raw clay should be taken home at the end of each visit unless prior storage arrangements have been made.

Sales tax of 7% applies to materials where required.

Studio Storage

Artists may keep wet work on designated Open Studio shelves until it is ready for bisque firing.

Please make sure all work is clearly labeled with your name.

Finished, unlabeled, or unclaimed work left for more than 60 days may be considered abandoned and may be discarded or removed at the studio's discretion.

Glotfelty Pottery is not responsible for work that is damaged due to improper construction, handling, drying, firing, or extended storage.

Firing Services

Firing is charged by cubic inch.

Firing rates:

All pieces must have clean bottoms before glaze firing. Please make sure there is no glaze on the foot, base, or any surface that touches the kiln shelf.

Glotfelty Pottery currently fires up to Cone 6.

Outside Work and Outside Clay

Glotfelty Pottery may fire work made outside of our studio, provided the clay and glaze materials are appropriate for our kiln temperatures.

Artists must provide documentation verifying the clay body, glaze, and firing temperature.

Work made with unknown clay, unknown glaze, low-fire clay, or questionable materials may be refused.

To protect the studio, kilns, and other artists' work, Glotfelty Pottery reserves the right to decline any piece due to concerns about:

Artists may be responsible for kiln shelf, kiln furniture, or kiln damage caused by glaze runs, melting clay, improper materials, excessive thickness, trapped air, moisture, or inaccurate clay/glaze information.

Whole Kiln Rates

Whole kiln rates may be available by request.

Our largest kilns are approximately 10 cubic feet.

Whole kiln use is subject to studio approval and is not intended for production-scale commercial firing unless specifically arranged.

Studio Guidelines

To keep Open Studio safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone, we ask that artists follow these guidelines:

Glotfelty Pottery reserves the right to refuse work, firing, or studio access when necessary to protect the studio, equipment, kilns, staff, or other artists' work.

Clean-Up Expectations

Each artist is responsible for cleaning their own workspace before leaving.

Open Studio Acknowledgment

By using Open Studio at Glotfelty Pottery, artists acknowledge that they understand and agree to follow the studio's Open Studio policies.

These policies are designed to protect the studio, kilns, equipment, staff, and the work of all artists using the space.
